Wheatgrass: Nature's Defense
One of the most important things to remember when considering treatment of one's body is to also remember that preventative treatment is equally, if not more, important. Once someone is diagnosed with an illness or disease, the effects are often much harder to stop or slow down than if preventative measures had been taken. One of the best ways possible to promote good health is through consumption of wheatgrass. Wheatgrass has many health benefits and is widely considered to be a leading cause in the prevention of illness and promotion of good health.
Let's start by talking about the plant itself. Wheatgrass is a very young version of the wheat plant we are used to seeing and consuming. Wheat goes through stages just as any other plant, and wheatgrass is the earliest. In this stage it is a completely different plant than when the wheat grows into stalks and we harvest it as grain.
As a young plant, it is a fantastic source of chlorophyll which encourages hemoglobin production which in turn increases oxygen carrying capabilities of blood cells. This in and of itself is a huge benefit as the brain and other tissue of the body function on exponentially greater levels when the blood is highly oxygenated. Chlorophyll also helps the body fight off negative bacteria as well as is a potent cleanser, re-builder of tissue, and toxin fighter. Because of the extremely potent balance of vitamins (including the very important, but often elusive B12) coupled with the benefits of high chlorophyll concentration, wheatgrass has a whole myriad of health benefits. Some examples are increased heart function, liver and kidney health, greater health of the vascular system, improved digestive system, and healthier lungs. It is even said to help reduce scarring already present in the lungs from inhaling toxic fumes, etc.
When using wheatgrass as a dietary supplement, one does not have to consume it in large quantities. Often people notice great health benefits from consuming as little as one ounce per day. There are some that recommend more, but no matter what the consumption rate, this little plant packs quite the punch in keeping you healthy.
